About the Safer Dog Aggression Test

The Safer Aggression Test / MYM Safer Test was developed by Dr. Emily Weiss working in conjunction with Humane Societies in Kansas. Animal shelters wanted an evaluation to identify potentially dangerous dogs and dogs with dangerous behavior problems that were likely to bite.

It was critical to grade a dog by degrees of how adoptable or dangerous their  behavior was.  The evaluation focuses on if the dog is likely to bite and cause injuries. It is a judgement on whether the dog is a dangerous threat.

Of the large number of dogs evaluated in the development of the test, 40% to 80% that originally failed the test,  failed the test again after three weeks of training.

Safer Test / MYM Safer Test identifies dominant personalities , fear-biters and reactive dogs. Reactive dogs are canines that, when triggered, can result in an serious aggressive attack. These triggers can be caused by sight, sound or being touched.

In the spring of 2006, the ASPCA, purchase the rights to the Safer Test from Dr. Emily Weiss. It is part of the Meet Your Match adoption program to place safe pets in appropriate homes.

The Safer aggression Test is now known as the MYM Safer Test. The tests only criteria is whether the dog is potentially a safe pet. The test targets those dogs who are likely to bite and be dangerous.

The MYM Safer Test is committed to safe dogs being adopted into the community.

The aggression test that West uses is based on the Safer Test and the MYM Safer Test. It has been modified to be used with dogs that already have a history of dangerous dog behaviors and biting.
